FABRIC GUIDES FOR CUSTOM CLOTHING
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT fabric types for custom clothing
Have questions about choosing the right fabric for your clothing?Â
Here are some of the most common questions we get from our clients, covering fabric types, weights, and how to select the best material for custom clothing.
How do I choose the best fabric for my specific clothing line?
The "best" fabric depends on your design's purpose and target price point. We categorize our library by GSM (grams per square meter) for weight, composition (natural vs. synthetic), and weave. Our experts can provide a curated selection of swatches based on your sketches—whether you need high-stretch performance wear or structured luxury tailoring.
What is the difference between "Stock Fabrics" and "Custom-Dyeing"?
Stock Fabrics: Available in a wide range of pre-set colors with lower Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs). Great for faster turnaround.
Custom-Dyeing: We can match any Pantone TPX/TCX color specifically for your brand. This usually requires a higher MOQ but ensures your collection has a unique and consistent color palette.
What does "GSM" mean and why is it important for manufacturing?
GSM stands for Grams per Square Meter. It is the standard measure of fabric thickness and weight.
Low GSM (100–150): Ideal for lightweight t-shirts, summer dresses, or linings.
High GSM (280–400+): Best for premium hoodies, sweatshirts, and heavy outerwear. Knowing the GSM helps ensure your final product matches the "hand-feel" you intended.
Can you source sustainable or eco-friendly fabrics?
Absolutely. As custom clothing manufacturers, we offer a variety of sustainable options including GOTS-certified Organic Cotton, Recycled Polyester (rPET), Tencelâ„¢, and Bamboo. We can provide the necessary certifications for these materials to help you build a transparent and ethical brand.
How do you ensure fabric quality and consistency across bulk orders?
Every batch of fabric undergoes rigorous pre-production testing. We check for colorfastness, shrinkage rates, and pilling resistance. By sourcing from reputable mills and performing in-house quality checks before the cutting process begins.
Do you offer performance fabrics for activewear?
Yes. We source high-tech textiles with specialized finishes, including moisture-wicking, antimicrobial (anti-odor), UV protection, and 4-way stretch. If your brand focuses on gym wear or outdoor gear, we can recommend technical blends like Nylon-Spandex or Polyester-Coolmax.
Can I request fabric swatches before starting a full sample?
We highly recommend it. While digital photos give a good idea of color, feeling the "drape" and "hand" of the fabric is crucial. We offer Swatch Books or Header Samples for our most popular fabrics so you can verify the quality and texture before committing to a sample development or bulk production.
